Perfect Timing When to Visit Seattle
Unfortunately, Seattle’s weather has a bad reputation. It rains in Seattle. A lot. Seattle’s number of rainy and cloudy days outnumber all the rainy East Coast cities like Boston, Atlanta, or New York City. Most of the rainfall in Seattle happens between October and April, so travelers visiting in the summer might not get hit with any rain at all. Read on to learn more about Seattle’s seasons and what to expect weather-wise whenever you plan to visit.
During the winter months, you’ll find the cheapest hotel deals. But, it’s not the most ideal time for sightseeing. Temperatures hang in the mid-30s and 40s from December through January and rainfall is heavy. On the flipside, if you’re into winter sports such as skiing and snowboarding, Seattle is a great destination.
Mount Rainier offers hiking, skiing, snowshoeing and more. The Cascade Range, known as the Cascades, also offers hiking, climbing, and a Seaplane Flight Tour.
Spring is also great for getting a good hotel deal because they haven’t yet raised their prices after the winter. However, visitors should be prepared for rough Pacific winds and more rain. The average temperature from March-May is 55 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit and breezes can make it feel even colder. Packing warm layers is recommended.
Spring in Seattle holds lots of festivals such the Tulip Festival, Cherry Blossom Festival, and World Rhythm Festival.
The summer months of June-August are the most popular for travelers. Temperatures are comfortable at around 75 degrees Fahrenheit and the rain has mostly subsided. Because it’s such a beautiful time in the Emerald City, be prepared for increased hotel prices and limited availability. It’s recommended that you bring a light jacket, as the winds can still be a bit chilly and that you book your accommodation well in advance.
Take advantage of the sunshine and stay outdoors. Travelers can enjoy plenty of outdoor activities, like paddle boarding along Puget Sound, whale watching, hanging out at Alki Beach, and sampling your way through Pike Place Market.
September through October is a great time for bargain hunters in Seattle. Hotel rooms are usually empty and priced at discounted rates. The weather is still pretty mild at this time of year, ranging from 40-70 degrees Fahrenheit, depending on the month. The chance of rain goes up a bit, so it’s a good idea to pack some warmer layers and an umbrella.
Fall is an exciting time to visit and there’s plenty to do, like the three-week-long Oktoberfest, and Seattle Cider Company’s, Washington Cider Week.
If you’re planning a trip to Seattle, there’s a lot to consider when trying to pick the right time of year. Do you want a cheaper hotel or warmer weather? There’s plenty to see and do year round, but it depends on how up you are for braving the cold and rain. Regardless of when you choose to go, you’re sure to make plenty of memories. Just make sure to pack a light jacket and a pair of rain boots!
